Nice to meet you! I’m Austa.

Currently the Instagram Manager at Apartment Therapy Media, I get the chance to curate content for three unique accounts with a combined following of nearly three million. Two of those accounts’ main purposes are to exemplify and promote the two editorial branches of ATM—the first being Apartment Therapy (@apartmenttherapy), a home and decor site designed to inspire anyone to live a more beautiful and happy life at home. The second account I manage is Kitchn (@thekitchn) a digital daily food magazine celebrating life in the kitchen through home cooking and kitchen intelligence. The third account is a joyful celebration of houseplants called I Plant Even (@iplanteven).

Formerly, I was an editorial project manager at National Geographic, working on some of their largest company-wide initiatives and stories. I also wrote for Nat Geo, covering a wide range of topics from international tree house hotels to sustainable marijuana.

I’m passionate about exploring how food and drink intertwine with the culture of a place and the memories of individuals and relationships. Later this winter, look out for the release of a digital food series that I’ve had the pleasure of executive producing and hosting, called At The Table (with Austa).

Aside from my pieces at Nat Geo, works of mine been published in The Washington Post, Thrillist, DCist, Brightest Young Things, and American Forests Magazine.

I grew up in Claremont, California (in Los Angeles County) but reside in New York City. As a third culture kid I attribute my global interests to my weird and amazing family—my mom being half Filipino and half Thai, and my dad being Icelandic. A few of my favorite things include plant hoarding, squirrel watching, whiskey cocktails, and golden hour.

Please feel free to peruse my written works and photography on this site, and drop me a line via email or LinkedIn if you would like to connect!
